The deposit
A deposit is a refundable security, not a rental payment. It is returned after the vehicle is inspected and there is no damage or outstanding summons.
Typical amounts
- Motorcycles — RM100 to RM200.
- Cars — RM300 to RM500.
- Vans and buses — depends on the vehicle.
Insurance
The rate includes basic insurance. Extra cover reduces what you carry in an accident — ask for the price before you take the keys.
Terms people misread
- The daily mileage limit and what applies beyond it.
- Whether a late return is charged hourly or as a full day.
- Fuel: collect full, return full.
One piece of advice
Photograph the vehicle before you leave and after you return. It settles nearly every deposit dispute before it starts.
